1,582 Confirmed cases of swine flu in the UK

110 new cases have been confirmed in England bringing yesterdays total up to 1,582 not including the latest diagnosed cases in Scotland.

76 countries are now affected by the swine flu (H1N1) virus and the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared a global flu pandemic in an emergency meeting held last week. It is the first global flu pandemic in 40 years.

Although the WHO have declared a pandemic, this does not mean that the virus is causing a greater number of deaths or that the illness is getting any more severe, and is declared on geographical terms as the virus spreads.
