9,718 confirmed cases of swine flu in the UK

The UK now has the third highest number of cases of swine flu in the world after the US with currently 33,902 and Mexico with 10,262 confirmed cases.

With 14 people now dead after contracting swine flu there are currently 355 people in English hospitals with the virus, 43 of which are in critical care.

Health Secretary, Andy Burnham estimated that 100,000 new cases of H1N1 could occur in Britain by the end of August. This was also confirmed by Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson, as the most accurate prediction of what will happen to date.
