E-prescriptions go live in Scotland
In the first system of its kind in the UK, most of Scotland's GP practices have electronic links to local community pharmacies.
Reducing the risk of error and cutting down on paperwork, the electronic Acute Medication Service allows prescriptions to be transmitted directly to the pharmacy.
Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish Health Secretary said: "We have a very successful prescribing system in Scotland, with around one million paper prescriptions written by GPs every week and dispensed in community pharmacies."
