Warning of new MRSA threat
Experts have said that a new strain of MRSA seems to be triggering a deadly form of pneumonia in people with flu.
Researchers from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, warn the emergence of swine flu could make the issue worse, as this form of CA-MRSA seems to affect people who are already ill with flu. It is also possible that death rates following infection may be higher than 50%.
MRSA infections mostly occur in healthcare settings, such as hospitals and nursing homes and can range from boils to more severe infections of the blood, lungs and sites of surgery. However, the latest study warns that community-acquired cases are beginning to increase.
